English Course Fees in Singapore: A 2026 Guide for Adult Professionals

Compare English course fees by the tuition, taught hours, format and total payable for the booking you actually want. A headline fee alone does not tell you whether two courses cover the same amount of teaching. This guide explains English Explorer’s published prices and provides a worksheet for comparing courses; it does not present the school’s prices as a Singapore-wide market average.

English Explorer’s published adult course fees

  • General, Conversational or Business English group classes: S$350 for eight two-hour sessions, according to the course overview.
  • Private tuition: the private English page states S$1,280 for eight two-hour sessions plus a one-time S$50 material fee.
  • Group trial: the trial page states S$45 for one two-hour class.
  • Corporate training: request a quotation for the team and proposed training rather than applying an individual group-course fee.

Published details checked: 26 October 2026. Confirm the current course, intake and full payable amount before booking. Examination preparation or a different package should be checked against its own quotation.

Choose the course before comparing the price

General English develops speaking, listening, reading and writing. Conversational English focuses on spoken communication, listening, pronunciation and confidence. Business English covers workplace uses such as emails, meetings and presentations.

Choose the goal first, then compare the class format and timetable. A course with a lower headline price may contain fewer taught hours; a higher fee does not prove that it will deliver faster progress or better results for you.

A total-cost worksheet you can use

Create one column for each course you are comparing and complete these seven entries:

  1. The exact booking: course name, level, group or private format, campus or online delivery, and intended intake.
  2. Tuition: the amount quoted for that package, not a price from a different course or an old promotion.
  3. Taught hours: session count multiplied by the stated session length. Eight two-hour sessions contain 16 taught hours. Calendar weeks and taught hours are different measures.
  4. Additional charges: record materials, registration and any other separately stated items. Ask whether GST is included where applicable. Do not assume that an item is included merely because it is not mentioned in a summary.
  5. Trial and assessment: check whether you need either, what the quoted terms are, and whether any payment is separate. Do not assume the trial fee is deducted from later tuition.
  6. Attendance and payment terms: ask what applies if you miss a lesson, change the booking or cancel. Write down the actual terms; this guide does not invent a makeup, refund or instalment entitlement.
  7. Your time and travel: compare the actual lesson dates with work and other commitments, then add the journey or equipment needs for your chosen format.

For a tuition-only comparison, S$350 divided by 16 taught hours is approximately S$21.88 per hour. Private tuition of S$1,280 divided by 16 hours is S$80 per hour, before the stated material fee. Adding that S$50 fee produces S$1,330, or approximately S$83.13 per hour for this example booking. These calculations compare cost, not the amount or speed of learning an individual will achieve.

Group, private or corporate English?

Group classes involve learning with other adults on a class timetable. Private tuition is a different format for discussing individual goals and proposed lesson content. Compare the school’s private and corporate options with your budget and requirements; neither a higher fee nor individual tuition guarantees faster mastery.

A company enquiry should describe the participants, the communication tasks they face and the proposed dates. Ask for the training scope, taught hours, delivery location and total price in the quotation. Do not multiply an individual student price and assume it is the corporate rate.

Funding and the total payable

English Explorer’s published overview says LifeSG Credits may be used toward eligible courses. Confirm the specific scheme, course, eligibility and payment process before relying on a credit. That wording does not establish SkillsFuture eligibility, and this guide does not claim that English Explorer’s courses are SkillsFuture-approved.

Complete your comparison using the amount actually payable under the confirmed booking. Keep an uncertain subsidy separate from your cash budget until eligibility is verified.

Find a suitable starting class

The school’s free English placement test is a starting route for course recommendations. Use the General English timetable, the relevant specialist course page or the course comparison to check the next step. Confirm the intake before arranging your work calendar or making payment.
